Journal 14 Due Friday, December 2, 2011 Important tips: Do NOT use three senses to divide your topic. You need to blend in sensory details -- include them as you describe the three main points you decide to incorporate. You will need an interesting introduction and conclusion. These two paragraphs may have somewhat similar information, but they should not repeat! You should be grabbing your reader's attention, not just listing what you will write about. End with something that will give the reader food for thought. |
Mode: Descriptive Topic: Think back to when you were a little child. What was your favorite toy? Describe your toy. Why does this toy stick out in your memory? Prewriting:Decide what topic you want to write about. Brainstorm! Think of the ways that you want to describe your item. Some possible ideas are where and when you got this, how long you played with it, how did you use it or what did you do with it, what do you remember most, and what happened to it. List three main points you will write about, and organize your details accordingly. Paragraphs need to be well-devoped with five to seven sentences. The better job you do with prewriting, the easier it will be to write your paper.

Journal 15 Due Friday, December 9, 2011
Reminder – Whatever mode you choose is fine, but your writing must include the traits of that mode. If you write a story, remember to include dialog and correct paragraphs, punctuation, and capitalization. If you choose persuasive, remember to address your audience and include three reasons with backup. If you choose descriptive, choose the three areas you want to describe and blend in sensory details. If you choose expository, organize your ideas into paragraphs and pay attention to including specifics. |
Mode: Pick your own – Label your paper at the top to identify the mode you have chosen. The holiday season is full of surprises. This week, your journal topic will be a surprise to the teacher! Choose whatever topic you would like, as long as it is appropriate for a school assignment and it is not a topic we have already written about.
