Mode: Expository

Due Date: Friday, February 3

You have been working on a self-portrait project in art class. Write an expository paper about your self- portrait. You will need three main points in your essay. In one paragraph, tell the steps, methods, and tools you used to create your self-portrait. In another paragraph, tell what you like about yourself when you look in the mirror. You might like telling a bit about your physical features, but what is inside probably matters much more! In the last paragraph, tell what you want to see in the mirror – what changes would you like to make in yourself – or what goals would you like to set?

Prewriting – use your three bubbles for each main topic and list the details to support that topic.

Introduction – Grab your audience with something interesting to start your paper. Give a hint about the three topics you will include in your paper.

Conclusion – Remind your audience of your main topics, but do not just repeat what you have said. End on a strong note with something you have learned about yourself.

Due Date: Friday, February 10

Paragraphs need topic sentences and then backup details. In order to write 5 - 7 sentence paragraphs, the paragraph's main idea needs to be well developed with four or five backup points. Details, details, details!

Topic: Last week, you wrote about yourself. This week, write an expository paper to tell about someone in your life whom you admire and who holds a meaningful place in your heart. It might be family member, friend of the family, teacher, coach, neighbor, baby-sitter, or even a friend.

Prewriting: Think of three ways this person has impressed you, helped you, or done something special for you. The best way to explain is to be specific about what they have done. For example, saying someone is generous is too general. Showing how they give of their time or talents is more specific. Again, a little anecdote would be a great way to illustrate one of your main points.
